How I Was Able To Lose Weight and Keep It Off For Good – Richard’s Story
Richard Spackman here, creator of this website and of the weight loss motivation newsletter. In this article I’d like to introduce myself to you and share my own personal “story”
In writing my story I’ve chosen to discuss some very personal details about difficult times that I’ve felt reluctant to share publically.
However, I decided to share them with you as I strongly believe that the lessons I learned will be incredibly valuable to anyone trying to lose weight now.
What Set Me On My Way
My journey towards lasting health and weight loss began around seven years ago, during which time I suffered from near non-existent self-esteem and a crippling lack of self-confidence.
I was painfully shy and introverted, and felt as though that I had nothing to offer anyone. I basically felt that everyone thought I was a useless joke.
To comfort myself, I would eat – pizza and chocolate were my favourites, and with the combined stress/pressure of work and my shyness I was also very inactive. Most of my free time alone was spent alone, sitting watching TV or surfing the internet, often snacking.
As a result I became 30+ pounds overweight. Like most people, I bought diet books and went on exercise programs because I felt awful about my weight and wanted to lose it. However, I could never make anything stick and I’d always end up going back to the way I was before – which only made me feel worse about myself due to failing over and over again.
For a long time I tried to hide my lack of confidence and negative feelings about myself and about my weight from others and not discuss or admit it, but the desperation got to the point that one night I remember sitting bent over my bed, breaking down and feeling so terrible about myself that I barely had any strength to stand – I felt absolutely hopeless.
I Was Forced To Finally Admit That I Needed Help
This was a difficult thing for me to admit, but thankfully I quickly found a local clinical hypnotherapist who I started seeing for treatment.
The therapist helped me identify the causes of my low self-esteem and self-confidence and worked with me to overcome them through mental techniques, which put me in a relaxed state and provided positive suggestions for change.
I rapidly started seeing significant changes in my self-confidence and in how I felt about myself. I noticed myself being able to do things quite naturally that I’d never felt confident enough to do before.
The Changes Lead To A HUGE Realization That Changed My Life
The positive changes I was noticing in my self-confidence were INCREDIBLY exciting for me, and as I thought about them, I came to a realization that literally changed my life.
I realized that all the therapist had done to help me feel more confident was to change my MINDSET.
I’d always thought that my negative feelings were just “happening to me”, like I was being attacked by them and couldn’t do anything about it. NOW I realized that the feeling I had were coming from the thoughts I was having in my mind, and that by changing my thoughts I could change how I felt.
I can’t say that I now never suffer from feelings of self doubt. It’s something I have to remain aware of and work on, but the realization I made and the knowledge I’ve gained has helped me to transform my life for the better ever since.
How I Finally Lost Weight and Kept It Off For Good
After my big “ah ha” realization, I felt newly empowered to lose weight, get in shape, fit and healthy.
This time I was armed with fresh insights and knowledge and went at losing weight in completely different way.
I figured that I already knew HOW to lose weight (eat less and exercise), it was DOING what I knew I needed to do and keep it up that was the problem.
So I went to work on my motivation and mind; I went to work on the causes of my cravings and the reasons I had felt I needed to comfort eat, on the negative beliefs and associations I had to healthy food and exercise, and on my attitudes and habits.
It was only as a result of focusing on learning how to change the thoughts, attitudes and beliefs in my mind – and therefore my outer habits, that I was able to finally lose weight and keep it off.
I lost the 30 lbs, and I’ve kept them off ever since – and it was without a doubt one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life.
How I Became a Weight Loss Motivation Expert (and WHY)
Becoming a weight loss motivation expert and coach kind of “happened to me”.
I was shocked when I learned that studies show that as much as 95% of people who lose weight eventually gain it back, and many people actually end up heavier then they started.
I now know that the reason for this is that, like I did, most people know HOW to lose weight – they’ve read diet books, they know the exercise routines they should do. But what they don’t know is what to do to stay motivated to actually do it.
Without lasting motivation, there can be no lasting weight loss. If you’re not highly motivated, you won’t be able to keep doing what you need to do to get to your ideal weight.
The reason for this is that 80% of success in almost any area of life, including weight loss, is a matter of PSYCHOLOGY.
But we don’t get taught about it - we only get given the diets and exercises (the 20%).
No-one teaches us what we need to do to create and sustain lasting motivation, so for most people the battle is as good as over before its begun because most people who struggle to lose weight have inner personal and motivational “blocks” in their mind that, unless they’re fixed, will sabotage and prevent any lasting success.
I believe that THAT’S the real reason why 95% of people fail to lose weight and keep it off.
So I came to realize that people trying to lose weight in particular have a MASSIVE need to know what I came to discover, and it’s become a mission of mine to teach as many people as I can the psychological tools and techniques they need to know in order to take control of their mind, eliminate the inner blocks that stop them, create and sustain high motivation and – as a result – lasting weight loss.
All in all I’ve spent the best part of the last 7 years learning cutting edge psychology and mind-science teachniques for sustaining motivation and creating lasting change, be it for weight loss or any other area of life.
I’ve created this website and email newsletter to share what I know with the world and give people the “missing 80%” that they REALLY need to know to lose weight and keep it off for good – not more “breakthrough” diets and “miracle” exercise systems that NEVER last…not without knowing what do with you mind first – not without knowing how to change their mind and create and sustain high levels of motivation.

From Low Self-Esteem To High Motivation…
I was driven to create this site after suffering from low self-esteem for a long time which, among other things, caused me to comfort eat and become over 30 lbs overweight. My health was important to me, but I struggled to the lose weight and could never keep it off due to huge mood swings – it was just too difficult emotionally and I felt I didn’t have the strength.
After struggling with my self esteem and weight for a long time, I eventually went and saw a hypnotherapist for help, and it was this that lead to a huge realization about himself that changed my life.
.Your MIND Is The Key To Lasting Change and Motivation
During my hynptherapy treatment, I noticed huge improvements in my feelings of self-confidence and self-esteem - both inside himself and in the way he was behaving. As my self confidence and self-esteem grew, I found myself doing things I’d never felt like I could do before.
.This lead me to a massive realization – all the hypnotherapist had really done was help him change my MIND. And as a result, I was experiencing lasting changes in the way he felt, and in the way I was behaving.
Before, I had always felt helpless – like there was nothing he could do about the way he felt, and like good feelings like happiness and confidence and motivation just came and went.
Now I realizaed that if I could learn how to take control of my mind, I could get himself to feel and do almost anything – and have it last.
This realization inspired me to spend 7 years of my life studying psychology, motivation, and the science of human behaviour and change.
As a result, he was able to change all the important areas of my life for the better, including finally being able to lose weight and keep it off for good.
There is a MASSIVE Need In The Weight Loss Industry For Information On How To Create LASTING Motivation
I’ve been driven to create this site for one main reason.
Over the years I really came to realize that there is a MASSIVE need in the weight loss industry for the motivational tools and techniques that I’ve discovered and taught myself over the past 7 years.
No one ever taught them to me before when I was trying to lose weight, and without them I know hands down that without them I would never have been able to achieve the lasting weight loss that I have been able toachieve. People NEED to know these things.
Everyone Knows How To Lose Weight, But We Don’t Get Taught How To Stay MOTIVATED To Do It Long Term
We all know HOW to lose weight – diet, and exercise regularly. The problem is that we don’t know how to stay motivated to do it for longer than a few weeks or a few months at best. For lasting, permanent changes we all know we need to do things long term, and for that you need to be able to sustain high levels of motivation.
Studies suggest that 95% of people fail to lose weight, and I believe that the reason for tmy is that they get taught what diets to eat and what exercises to do, but most people don’t get taught what is by far the most important thing – what to do with your MIND.
As a result, most people are virtually guaranteed to fail long term as a result of having to battle motivation killing and success destroying inner blocks like cravings, comfort eating, resistance to exercise, lack of will power, and so on.
These are all thing that come from the mind, and unless you learn what to do to overcome and eliminate these problems and permanently maintain a state of high motivation to lose weight, its virtually impossible to lose weight and keep it off long term.
No one in the weight loss industry really teach these things, and as a result, the vast majority fail – over and over again, feeling worse and worse about themselves each time.
Therefore I’ve made it my mission to share the techniques, tools and strategies that are needed to achieve lasting high motivation and permanent weight loss – to stay motivated to do the things you already know your need to do, and to overcome and eliminate the challanges and blocks like cravings and comfort eating that stop you.
I’ve created this site to set out to do exactly that.
